Free Motion Quilting #1 - J'Ann McEwen - Muskegon

This class is an introduction to free motion quilting and will include a discussion of the basics of free motion quilting, preparing for and planning the quilting of your quilt, where to begin your quilting, basic types of threads and needles to be used, different ways to mark the quilt (such as stencils and traced patterns as well as guidelines for quilting edge to edge) and basic free-motion patterns. We will also work on some beginning free-motion designs using doodling which helps to create the muscle memory needed for free-motion quilting. Machine not necessary for this class.

Jelly Roll Rug - Sherry Renker - Wyoming

The rug in my office is the larger size. I used 48 strips; 8 different fabrics – 6 strips of each color. Wind 4 – 5 bobbins before you start. The zigzag stitch uses a lot of thread. You may buy batting on a roll or cut your own; because the rolls come in 25 or 50 yards, I started with a 50 yard roll then cut the last couple of yards from leftover batting I had on hand. PLAN ON COMING TO CLASS WITH YOUR STRIPS CUT, WE MAY NOT FINISH BUT YOU WILL HAVE ENOUGH DONE TO FINISH ON YOUR OWN

This class is an introduction to free motion quilting and will include a discussion of the basics of free motion quilting, preparing for and planning the quilting of your quilt, where to begin your quilting, basic types of threads and needles to be used, different ways to mark the quilt (such as stencils and traced patterns as well as guidelines for quilting edge to edge) and basic free-motion patterns. Seaside is a new block of the month class beginning in the fall as soon as the fabric arrives. The pattern is by Barbara Persing and the finished quilt measures 65 x 73”. Every month we will be doing one block. Fabrics are Batik. Each block is appliquéd. Kits will be prepared by Lakeshore. Price not yet determined.
