If you are new to long-arming and would like to learn the basics such as threading, loading and squaring your top to quilt, changing feet, different modes of operation (regulated (precision or continuous) or manual, basting, needle changing, ruler quilting, etc. please join us! This is another quick curve quilt called Flower Pop. Again it uses the Sew Kind of Wonderful Quick Curve Ruler. It gives us the opportunity to use lots of our scraps. The finished quilt measures 77 x 77”. I made mine half that size - more of a wall hanging.

Free Motion Quilting #1 - J'Ann McEwen - Muskegon

This class is an introduction to free motion quilting and will include a discussion of the basics of free motion quilting, preparing for and planning the quilting of your quilt, where to begin your quilting, basic types of threads and needles to be used, different ways to mark the quilt (such as stencils and traced patterns as well as guidelines for quilting edge to edge) and basic free-motion patterns. We will also work on some beginning free-motion designs using doodling which helps to create the muscle memory needed for free-motion quilting. Machine not necessary for this class.

Following up on the Machine Quilting #1 Class, we will be doing free-motion quilting practicing some of the more basic free-motion designs. The more practice the easier and more confident you will feel in free-motion quilting and this class is designed to get you going and erase the fear of free-motion quilting. We will also be experimenting with stencils, Pounce, ruler quilting, etc.

This quilt measures 43 x 55” and is from the Quick Christmas 3-Yard Quilts book by Fabric Cafe. It will give the beginner the opportunity to learn strip sets, half-square triangles, accurate piecing etc. From cutting and piecing to squaring up, sandwiching, quilting and binding. A complete quilt. Please note that there will be homework and you will need to work on it at home if you want to finish it completely.
